Rayzor Bio
Rayzor Bachand is a New York-based fashion photographer who began his career in Dallas, TX in 1989. Rayzor and his make-up artist/partner Penny Rosen make exceptional use of color, presenting bold, sexy photographs that consistently showcase beauty in combination with female attitude.
Over the last 15 years, the team has worked in Chicago, LA, Miami, New York, and Philadelphia, among others, photographing some of the most striking fashion photographs in the market. Notable Photo credits include Grammy award-winning artist Erykah Badu and actress/recording artist Karan Ashley.
Project Red Soks
Inspired by the late supermodel Gia Carangi, Rayzor took the first Project Red Soks photograph in 1992, with the idea that the image would some day be used to raise money and awareness in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Since that time, the Project has taken on a life of its own, and grown to include over 70 women, all of whom personally believe in the Project and, like Rayzor, want to do their part to say, "This disease must be conquered."
Similar to Rayzor's fashion photographs, Project Red Soks images are powerful compositions, reflecting a sense of honesty and vivid sexuality. Each image is a celebration of strength and beauty, inside and out. All of the images included in the Project easily stand on their own, while being unified in "nothing but Red Soks." 20% of proceeds from the sale of all photographs and merchandise created for the Project are donated to an approved charity displaying localized commitment to the battle against HIV/AIDS.
Letter from the Photographer
Dear Supporter,
As a fashion photographer, I started Project Red Soks as a dedication to Gia Carangi, the late supermodel, who left a permanent impression on the fashion industry, and continues to inspire my work each day.
Since the Project began, in 1992, my attachment to this cause has grown more personal. I lost my brother, Stephen, to complications from this dreaded disease in 2004. I know many of us have our own reasons for joining this fight, and I want to pay tribute to both Gia and Stephen in the work I continue to do with the Project. I believe this disease must be conquered, and I dedicate my efforts in this fight to the incredible strength of both individuals who made a deep impression on my life, and are dearly missed.
This project is a departure from my fashion work. The images included in Project Red Soks are, in a sense, a celebration of life, a depiction of human emotion. All the situations are unique, but the subjects consistently display a certain female strength that comes from within. In spite of the fact that the models are nude, the socks are really the focus of the work.
I am grateful to all of the models who have participated in this project, and also to you for visiting the site and spreading the word about Project Red Soks. Thanks especially for purchasing a limited edition photo (numbered and signed) for this important cause. If you would like to be on a MAILING LIST for notification of Project Red Soks events, or have any questions about the work, please feel free to
Sincerely,
Rayzor Bachand
